My first time shopping at this establishment today went better than expected. The reviews about the owner is exactly how she was described. Very sweet lady, gave me a warm welcome when I stepped into the store. My knowledge about braiding hair is nil. She assisted me, listened to my concerns and my shopping experience easy. Coming from Detroit where there is an abundance of beauty supply stores, this one is small but mighty. Its black owned, well stocked and the owner is super sweet. All the prices are very reasonable for Cali [coming from a transplant]. I plan to frequent here more!

I finally found my home for my hair care products! The owner is sweet and so helpful. She has things I can never find in target or Walmart, which is fine by me because she is so much closer and offers a much better shopping experience. Everything is reasonably priced and readily available. I love it and will be back for sure!

Essence Beauty was the first hair store I visited after moving to Oakland from Brooklyn, and it felt like home. Aunt Sarah welcomed me with the kind of warmth you don’t forget — like an East Coast auntie who just knows what you need.
